Razib finishes 5th in Annual Chicago Open, online chess

DHAKA, Oct. 12, 2020 (BSS)-Grandmaster Enamul Hossain Razib finished the fifth position in the open section of the 29th Annual Chicago Open, online chess that concluded today.

Grandmaster Razib earned five points out of seven games and tied for third place with five players and finished fifth in tie-breaking method. The tournament was held on the online chess platform ICC from October 9 to 11 and the last round games concluded this morning of Bangladesh standard time.

In that event, GM Razib won four games, drew two games and lost one match. He defeated Thomas Kenneth in the first round, Ngo Bach in the third round, GM Alonso Zapata of Colombia in the fourth round and GM Vakhidov Jakhongir of Uzbekistan in the seventh or final round. He split point with Hungarian Grandmaster Prohaszka Peter in the fifth round and Mcconnell Sull in the sixth round.

In the second round, Razib lost to American Grandmaster Sergei Erenburg.

In the open category, Russia’s GM Vladimir Beloas finished the undefeated champion with six and a half points and Belarus’s GM Aleksandrov Aleksej became the runner-up with six points.

A total of four thousand seven hundred US dollars prize money will be awarded in the open category.

Grandmaster Razib will receive a fifth prize of three hundred US dollars.

A total of fifty one players including fourteen grand masters and two international masters from different countries participated in the event which was held as per standard chess timing system.
