Webinar on disaster management held at DU
DHAKA, Oct 12, 2020 (BSS) – A webinar on disaster management was held today on Dhaka University (DU) campus on the occasion of International Disaster Mitigation Day.
Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies (IDMVS) organized the webinar titled ‘Good Governance in Disaster Risk Reduction, Ensuring Sustainable Development”, said a press release.
State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Md Enamur Rahman MP was present as the chief guest at the seminar while DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof ASM Maksud Kamal and Secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief Md Mohsin addressed as special guests.
Addressing the webinar, the speakers emphasized on expanding the scope of research in disaster management and said if good governance is established in disaster risk management, the number of deaths and loss of resources due to disasters will be reduced to a large extent.
Founding director of the institute Prof Khondoker Mokaddam Hossain presented the main article while the director of the institute Prof Mahbuba Nasreen presided over this virtual seminar.
Teachers, students, disaster management experts and researchers from universities around the world took part in the webinar.
International Disaster Mitigation Day is celebrated on 13th October every year.
