Bangladesh Editors Forum’s convening committee formed

DHAKA, Oct 8, 2020 (BSS) – A 22-member convening committee of
Bangladesh Editors Forum (BEF) was formed aimed at resolving various
problems of media and maintaining quality of journalism in the
country’s newspaper industry.

A 7-member advisory committee was also formed at a meeting at a city
hotel today.

Editors of 25 dailies in Dhaka and editors of established newspapers
in eight divisional cities attended the meeting.

A full-fledged committee will be formed by organizing a national
conference in the capital.

Advisory Council members are Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, Editor, the
Daily Observer; Naimul Islam Khan, Editor, the Our Comilla; Shyamal
Dutta, Editor, the Bhorer Kagoj; Shahjahan Sardar, Editor, the
Bangladesh Journal; Azizul Islam Bhuiyan, Editor, the Bangladesher
Khabar; KM Belayet Hossain, Editor, the Bhorer Dak and Sharif
Sahabuddin, Editor, the Bangladesh Post.

Rafiqul Islam Ratan, Editor, the Daily Swadesh Pratidin was made
convener of the committee; Joint Conveners Mahmud Anwar, Acting
Editor, the Alokit Bangladesh; and Nasima Khan Monty, Editor, Amader
Natun Somoy; Member Secretary, Farooq Ahmed Talukder, Editor, Daily
Ajkaler Khabar; Members; Ahsan Ullah, Editor, Daily Janata; Dr Enayet
Karim, Editor, Daily Industry; Md Ahsan Habib, Editor, Daily Khola
Kagoj; Dulal Ahmed Chowdhury, Acting Editor, Manabkantha; Mir
Moniruzzaman, Editor, Sharebiz; Mofizur Rahman Khan Babu, Editor,
Bangladesher Alo; Rimon Mahfuz, Acting Editor, Sangbad Pratidin; SM
Mahbubur Rahman, Acting Editor, Pratidiner Sangbad; Mohammad Ashraf
Ali, Editor, Bangladesh Bulletin; Nazmul Alam Tawfiq, Editor, Daily
Citizen Times.

The purpose and policy of the newly formed forum will be to
consolidate role of media in advancing with the spirit of the great
war of liberation and non-communal democratic Bangladesh.

The BEF will work for protection and interests of media, protection
of democracy, uplift of journalism, as well as development of the
country.

The daily newspapers which are regularly published from Dhaka and
other divisional and district towns as pro-liberation and development
partners of the country have been initially made members of the
convening committee of BEF.

Issues relating to multi-faceted crisis and prevailing situation in
the country’s newspaper industry were discussed in the meeting.
