New Indian high commissioner presents credentials to President

DHAKA, Oct 8, 2020 (BSS) – Newly appointed Indian High Commissioner-designate to Bangladesh Vikram Kumar Doraiswami presented his credentials to President M Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban here this evening.

Welcoming the new high commissioner, the President said Bangladesh-India tie is on course of expansion and India is not only Bangladesh’s closest neighbor but also a trusted friend.

The head of the state hoped that the relationship would further be deepened in days to come, President’s Press Secretary M Joynal Abedin told BSS after the meeting.

He said this existing excellent relation between the two states has expanded beyond the diplomatic sphere to trade, investment, education and culture.

Referring to the role of the Indian government during the 1971 Liberation War, the President expressed gratitude to the Indian government and its people as well for expanding cooperation during the time.

Abdul Hamid expressed the hope that the new envoy would make efforts to utilize every potential for the development of relations between the two countries.

The Indian high commissioner said India attaches utmost priority to the development of Bangladesh. Bangladesh would get India-produced vaccine of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) timely, the envoy added.

The President assured the Indian high commissioner of providing all necessary support to the high commissioner as he (HC) sought all-out cooperation in discharging his duties here.

President’s Office Secretary Sampad Barua, Military Secretary Major General SM Shamim-Uz-Zaman, Press Secretary Md Joynal Abedin, Foreign Secretary Masud bin Momen and President’s Office Secretary (attached) Md Wahidul Islam Khan were present on the occasion.

Earlier, on his arrival at Bangabhaban, a smartly turned-out contingent of the horse-mounted President Guard Regiment (PGR) gave the envoy ceremonial guards of honour.
