RCCI greets PM for lowering lending rate to single digit

RANGPUR, July 3, 2018 (BSS) – Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry
(RCCI) today greeted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and expressed deep
gratitude to her for lowering interest rate of bank loans to a single digit.

President of RCCI Mostafa Sohrab Chowdhury Titu, on behalf of the
organisation, greeted the Prime Minister, daughter of Father of the Nation
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and hailed the highly bold move.

“The move will encourage private sector investment by local and foreign
investors to enhance industrialisation and flourish trade and commerce
creating huge employments and speeding up the process of turning Bangladesh
into a developed country,” he said.

Chowdhury Titu also congratulated the Bangladesh Association of Banks
(BAB), an association of the private sector commercial banks, for responding
to the PM’s call and lowering the lending rate to a single digit effective
from July 1.

“The decision will encourage the new entrepreneurs and remove the fear of
double digit bank loan interest rates from the mind of sick small, medium and
bigger entrepreneurs inspiring them in re-investment to accelerate economic
activities,” Titu said.

He suggested the controlling authorities concerned to take the
responsibility of making the single digit bank loan interest rate effective
and sustainable on the long-term basis as per direction of the Prime Minister
for a vibrant national economy.

“A huge enthusiasm has been created among the traders, businesspersons,
investors and people involved with the economic sector for fulfilling their
long-cherished demand of bringing down the bank loan interest rate to single
digit,” Titu said.

The RCCI president said, “The epoch-making move will definitely bring new
dynamism in the trade, commerce and whole economic sector attracting
investments by the small, medium and local and foreign investors to create
more employments for the people.”

At the same time, he suggested the government as well as the banking sector
to disburse loans at straight interest rate to the female entrepreneurs in a
hassle-free manner to take them ahead and pave the way for their more
contribution to the national economy.

“The single digit interest rate will boost up economy to achieve 7.8
percent GDP growth during the current fiscal on way to realise the
government’s development visions and SDGs to build a Sonar Bangla as dreamt
by Bangabandhu,” Titu said.

Titu suggested the government to take actions to stop money laundering and
bring all loan defaulters under laws of the land for not returning loans.
