Education programme launched commemorating Mujib Year

DHAKA, 5 Oct, 2020 (BSS) – On the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and International Teachers Day 2020, a six-month long education programme was launched today.

Ministry of Education, Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, Aspire to Innovate (a2i) programme of the ICT Division and the Cabinet Division, supported by UNDP have launched the education programme.

The programme was inaugurated at a seminar “Teachers: Leadership in Crisis, New Thoughts for the Future” over a video conferencing platform with the participation of national and international teachers, said a press release.

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni joined the event as the chief guest while Deputy Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury joined it as special guest.

Technical and Madrasah Education Division Secretary Md Aminul Islam Khan and Head of the Office and UNESCO representative to Bangladesh Beatrice Kaldun were also present at the seminar.

“This year, we are celebrating the centenary of our mentor, the greatest Bengali ever, Bangabandhu Shiekh Mujibur Rahman. We have always aimed to build a society and nation based on science and knowledge. Only a teacher can inspire everyone to learn,” Dr Dipu Moni said.

“The ongoing global Corona crisis has brought in radical changes in the education sector… We have already provided skill training to our teachers in information technology.”

She went on saying, “Our online portal ‘Teachers Portal’ has gained international recognition and our teachers have proved their working capabilities even during the crisis.”

Education Deputy Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury said “Bangabandhu emphasized on the importance of education and allocating adequate budget to the education sector in the national budget. In its continuation, PM Sheikh Hasina has given the utmost importance to budget in the education sector.”

The 6-month-long event will also feature 20 seminars, 5 cultural performances and 6 side events. The event will end on March 17, 2021.

Director General of Secondary and Higher Secondary Department, Prof. Dr Syed Md. Golam Faruk, moderated a seminar titled “Teachers: Leading in Crisis, Reimagining the future,” participated by Anisur Rahman, Lecturer, Bheramara College, Kushtia; Zainab Muhammad Shuaibu, Chief Education Officer, National Teachers Institute, Nigeria; Paramjeet Kaur Dhillon, Principal, Kamla Nehru Public School, India; Stephanie L. Curley, Research Fellow, Education and Social Research Institute, Manchester Metropolitan University, UK; and Raihana Haque, Head Teacher, Banshgari One Government Primary School, Kishoreganj.

Education Technology Expert from a2i Rafiqul Islam Sujon, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, a2i and media personnel were also present on the occasion.
