Govt will bring closed jute mills into production: Mannujan

DHAKA, Oct 5, 2020 (BSS) – Urging jute mill workers not to become confused, State Minister for Labor and Employment Begum Mannujan Sufian today said the government would bring all the state-run closed jute mills into production as soon as possible.

“State-owned jute mills have not been closed permanently, rather production of those mills have been stopped temporarily….the mills will be brought back into production as soon as possible,” she said.

The state minister was speaking as the chief guest at a virtual views exchange meeting on the overall situation of state-owned jute mills in Khulna region, which were temporarily closed, said a press release.

The state minister said the government must keep the state-owned jute mills open to bring back the golden fiber tradition and maintain balance in business sector, considering the state of jute farmers.

Jute mills will be turned into profitable enterprises by installing GTZ, PPP and bringing leasing management in the jute mills, she said, adding if mills are opened, skilled workers will get jobs there on priority basis.

Presided over by Director of Labour Directorate, Khulna M Mizanur Rahman, the meeting was attended by Khulna City Corporation Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleq and Additional Deputy Commissioner M Yusuf Ali.
