Home ministry issues directives ahead of Durga Puja celebration

DHAKA, Oct 04, 2020 (BSS) – On the occasion of the upcoming Durga Puja, the greatest religious festival of the Hindu community, the Ministry of Home Affairs has given some instructions to ensure the security of the puja mandaps and maintain law and order.

The instructions came at a virtual meeting in the conference room of the home ministry today with Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan in the chair.

All concerned have been asked to follow those instructions for the overall security during the upcoming Durga Puja, according to a press release issued by the ministry here.

According to the instructions, while entering the puja mandap, one has to maintain health guidelines including social distancing, using hand sanitizer and wearing mask.

The meeting has requested all concerned to limit the number of puja mandaps as much as possible.

The leaders of the nationwide Sarbajanin Puja Committee have been asked to take initiatives for obeying the instructions.
Members of the law enforcement agencies will be on mobile duty to deal with law and order in the country during the time while no procession will be allowed at the time of immersion of the ‘Devi Durga’.

It also said that various ceremonies should be held by maintaining religious harmony.

The Ministry of Information will assist in disseminating other directives in the media, including restricting public gatherings, it said.

The meeting urged everyone to become aware of the possible second wave of coronavirus (COVID-19) infection.

The Puja Udjapan Committee will coordinate with the local administrations and law enforcement agencies for managing the puja mandaps.
The Puja Udjapan Committees are asked to dial 999 for emergency help or support, if needed.
