Social movement stressed to ensure safety for child girls

GAIBANDHA, OCT 1, 2020(BSS) – Speakers here at a discussion emphasised on
building social movement against all kinds of child abuse as well as violence
and ensuring social protection for the girls child.

If girl children get qualitative education, safety and a balanced diet,
they will also become self-dependent and will be able to contribute to the
society and the state, they opined.

They came up with the observation while addressing a discussion marking the
National Child Girl Day on Wednesday afternoon.

With additional deputy commissioner Alamgir Kabir in the chair, the meeting
was jointly organised by district administration and women affairs
department.

General Secretary of district Awami League Abu Bakar Siddique was present
at the event as the special guest.

Deputy director of the women affairs department Nargis Jahan, deputy
director of family planning department Saiful Islam, mayor of Gaibandha
municipality Shah Masud Zahangir Kabir Milon, district primary education
officer Hossain Ali,Dr. Md. Shariful Islam, and journalist Aftab Hossain were
present at the event.

The speakers in their speeches also said due to existing male dominated
attitudes and in some cases lack of awareness of family heads, girl children
are being abused in various ways.

People of the country are not able to ensure an enjoyable and friendly
environment for our girl children. Sustainable development is not possible
without ensuring girl child safety, they said.

A number of district level officials, social workers, distinguished persons
and media representatives took part in the meeting.
