Tree plantation on JS premises to mark Mujib Year

DHAKA, Sep 29, 2020 – Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud and Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed today planted trees on the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) premises to mark the occasion of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the greatest Bengali of all time.

“The worthy successor of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, PM Sheikh Hasina has been emphasizing on tree planting since she took over as the President of Bangladesh Awami League,” Dr Hasan said after planting trees at the JS premises today, said a release.

“She started a month-long tree planting programme from 1983 through Bangladesh Krishka League and since the formation of the Awami League government in 1996, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken various official initiatives to expedite the tree planting activities,” the minister added.

Emphasizing on urban forestry to keep the environment of the city clean, the minister also said that, “Because of the plantation movement taken to mark Mujib year, tree planting has become a social movement now. And due to the social forestation, the amount of areas covered by trees has increased a lot in the last 11 years.”

Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed in his speech after planting the tree saplings wished overall success to the tree planting programme, added the release.

The tree plantation programme is being conducted at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban premises as a part of the ‘One crore tree sapling planting programme’ announced by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman-2020.

The tree planting programme was attended by Chairman of the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Social Welfare Rashed Khan Menon, Chairman of the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Religious Affairs Md Hafeez Ruhul Amin Madani, JS members Abdul Momin Mandal, Gazi Mohammad Shahnawaz and Lutfun Nesa Khan and concerned officials and employees of the Secretariat of Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad and Public Works Department (PWD).
