Shaheed Moyez Uddin was vociferous against injustice: Mozammel

DHAKA, Sept 27, 2020 (BSS) – Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque has said the convener of the historic Agartala Conspiracy Case Conducting Committee, Swadhinata Padak recipient, former Awami League leader and lawmaker Shaheed Moyez Uddin was always vocal against injustice.

“Moyez Uddin, one of the organizers of the liberation war, was also the convener of the ‘Mujib Fund’ formed to conduct the historic Agartala conspiracy case. As a prudent lawyer and politician, he performed his historical duties with utmost courage,” he said.

He was speaking at a memorial meeting organized by the Shaheed Moyez Uddin Smrity Parishad at the Press Club here yesterday on the occasion of his 36th martyrdom anniversary that is being observed today.

The minister said Moyez Uddin played an impeccable role in all struggle from the six-point movement to the victory of Bangladesh’s war of independence.

In his political life, greed, lust, opportunism and cowardice attitude never touched him and he always gave respect to the greater interest of the country and the people instead of the interest of the individual, Mozammel added.

Moyez Uddin was killed on 27 September, 1984 by a criminal gang led by Azam Khan in Kaliganj while he was leading a protest against the then government.
Awami League (AL) Presidium Member Colonel (retd) Muhammad Faruk Khan attended the memorial meeting with Women Affairs Secretary of AL Central Committee and also Moyez Uddin’s daughter Meher Afroz Chumki in the chair.

State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russell, Jatiya Press Club General Secretary Farida Yasmin and renowned lawyers, journalists and professional leaders also took part in it.

The key note paper was presented by Ataur Rahman, President of Gazipur Journalists Union and General Secretary of Shaheed Moyez Uddin Smrity Parishad.
