Tk 1376cr projects underway for river treatment in Kurigram: Farooque

KURIGRAM, Sept 25, 2020 (BSS) – State Minister for Water Resources
Zaheed Farooque said today that works of three river treatment
projects involving Taka 1,376 crore are going on in Kurigram to save
the people of the district from river erosion.

He said two more projects involving Tk 714 cr and Tk 383 cr have
also been proposed for the river treatment.

The state minister was replying to queries of journalists after
visiting erosion hit areas at Moglabasa union of Kurigram Sadar
upazila. Relief goods were distributed among flood hit people of the
area.

Farooque said donor countries have been given open proposal for 21
projects of river treatment. China expressed willingness for project
of Teesta while Economic Relations ERD will discuss the matter with
the concerned officials to finalize it.

Local lawmakers Panir Uddin Ahmed, Prof MA Matin and Md Aslam
Hossain Sawdagar, Additional Water Resources Secretary Mahmudul Islam,
Water Development Board Director General Aminul Haque, Deputy
Commissioner Rezaul Karim, Police Super Mohibul Islam Khan, Zila
Parishad Chairman Zafar Ali, Deputy Secretary Noor Alam,
Superintending Engineer Jyoti Prakash Ghosh and Executive Engineer
Ariful Islam were present on the occasion, among others.
