Infection rate in Rangpur division now below 10pc

RANGPUR, Sept 25, 2020 (BSS) – The daily infection rate of new
coronavirus patients continues to remain below 10 percent for the
third consecutive day in Rangpur division today since the beginning of
the pandemic.

Health officials said 26 new infected cases were reported today
(Friday) after diagnosing 280 samples collected from the division at
the two laboratories in Rangpur and Dinajpur at the infection rate of
9.28 percent.

“In the division, infection rates of new COVID-19 patients were 8.51
percent on Thursday and 8.77 percent on Wednesday against 12.23
percent on Tuesday,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director
(Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS tonight.

Among the today’s 26 new infected persons of Rangpur division, 20
were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory
at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The new 20 patients include 14 of Rangpur, two of Lalmonirhat and
four of Kurigram districts,” Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service
and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM
Nurunnabi Lyzu said.

On the other hand, six new patients were reported after diagnosing
92 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College
(MARMC) in Dinajpur.

“The six new COVID-19 patients include five of Dinajpur and one of
Nilphamari districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr Syed Nazir
Hossain told BSS after completing the testing process at 7:55 pm
tonight.

Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said the daily infection rate of
new COVID-19 patients continues to decline consistently in the
division during the last three consecutive weeks.

“To further reduce the infection rate, people should wear masks
while remaining outside homes and abide by the health directives to
check a probable second wave of the deadly virus during the upcoming
winter,” Dr. Lyzu added.

Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the total number of COVID-19 patients rose to
11,800 as 26 new cases were reported from across the division.

“The district-wise break up of the 11,800 patients stands at 2,791
in Rangpur, 604 in Panchagarh, 1,042 in Nilphamari, 852 in
Lalmonirhat, 894 in Kurigram, 1,114 in Thakurgaon, 3,348 in Dinajpur
and 1,155 Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui said.
