Biman makes Tk 46.76 crore profit in 2016-17 fiscal, tells AKM Shahjahan Kamal

SANGSAD BHABAN, July 02, 2018 (BSS) – Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister AKM
Shahjahan Kamal today said the neat profit by the Biman Bangladesh Airlines was Taka 46.76
crore in 2016-17 fiscal.

“As per the annual audit, the earning by the state airlines operating agency Biman was Taka
4551.52 crore and expenditure was Taka 4504.77 crore in 2016-17 fiscal,” said the minister.

The minister said this while replying to a query made by treasury bench lawmaker Begum Hosne
Ara Lutfa Dalia at the House here.

The government has taken various steps to eliminate the loss of the state airlines since the present
government coming to power, said the minster. The government has procured a number of four
ultramodern, with more passenger accommodating capacity and fuel saving aircraft 777-300 ER
and two Boeing aircraft 737-800 which has already connected with the civil aviation, he added.

In addition to this, more two Boeing 787-8 Dream Liner will add with the contingent in the
months of August and November and the rest two aircraft will connect with the agency in the
next year, the minister pointed out.

Besides this, process is underway to procure necessary equipments for increasing the expertise of
ground/baggage handling the airline agency, the minister said.
