DHAKA, Sept 24, 2020 (BSS) – Mentioning that Bangladesh has enormous scope of raising production of unconventional fruits, including coffee and cashew nuts, Agriculture Minister Dr M Abdur Razzaque said today the horticulture centers should increase supply of plants and cuttings of these varieties at the growers’ level as the crops have huge demand at the international markets.

“The horticulture centers have to disseminate the seedlings and cuttings of unconventional fruits like improved varieties of jackfruit, pineapple and seedless guava to the entrepreneurs for its commercial cultivation”, he said while visiting the ‘Falbithi horticulture center’ in the city’s Asadgate area.

The horticulture centers deal with garden crops, generally fruits, vegetables and ornamental plants, and these will have to take initiatives to supply seedlings and cuttings of these crops as per the demand of the entrepreneurs as hill tracts and the northern regions have potentials to cultivate these crops.

The minister also instructed the concerned horticulture wing of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) to provide practical training to the growers and entrepreneurs with its yearlong fruit production project.

Agriculture extension department officials were also present during this time.
