COVID-19 cases cross 11,700 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Sept 23, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases crossed the 11,700 mark in Rangpur division on Tuesday despite a consistently declining trend in the daily number of infections in the past three consecutive weeks.

“The number of coronavirus cases rose to 11,712 with 46 more infections reported after testing 376 samples at Rangpur and Dinajpur on Tuesday, ” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

“The district-wise break up of the 11,712 patients stands at 2,761 in Rangpur, 602 in Panchagarh, 1,030 in Nilphamari, 848 in Lalmonirhat, 888 in Kurigram, 1,102 in Thakurgaon, 3,335 in Dinajpur and 1,146 Gaibandha districts.,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

At the same time, the number of recovered COVID-19 patients rose to 10,416 with the recovery of 31 more infected people in all eight districts of the division on Tuesday.

“The average recovery rate among the total 11,712 infected patients currently stands at 88.93 percent in Rangpur division,” he said.

The 10,416 recovered patients include 2,410 of Rangpur, 537 of Panchagarh, 968 of Nilphamari, 771 of Lalmonirhat, 816 of Kurigram, 763 of Thakurgaon, 3,160 of Dinajpur and 991 of Gaibandha districts.

With no more death reported on Tuesday, the total number of fatalities remained steady at 210 till this morning in the division.

The district-wise break up of the 210 fatalities stands at 48 in Rangpur, 72 in Dinajpur, 20 each in Thakurgaon and Nilphamari, 14 each in Gaibandha and Kurigram, 13 in Panchagarh and nine in Lalmonirhat districts.

“The average casualty rate among the total 11,712 coronavirus infected patients now stands at over 1.79 percent in the division,” he said.

Since the beginning, a total of 66,586 collected samples of Rangpur division till Tuesday, and of them, 11,712 were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of about 17.59 percent.

“Currently, the recovery rate (88.93 percent) of COVID-19 patients is 5.05 times higher than the infection rate (17.59 percent) in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui added.

Talking to BSS, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Sultan Ahmed said 186 more people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 156 others released in the division during the last 24 hours till 8 am today.

“Among the total 11,712 COVID-19 patients, 90 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 10,416 patients and 210 deaths while 996 remaining in home isolations,” he said.

Since the beginning, a total of 78,667 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 74,249 released and 4,418 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines.

Talking to BSS today, Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said the infection rate continues declining in the last three weeks in the division.

“To maintain the improving trend in the daily number of infections and prevent further spread of COVID-19, all citizens should sincerely abide by health directives of the government, especially during the upcoming winter season,” Dr. Lyzu added.
