148 business establishments fined for adulteration

DHAKA, Sept 22, 2020 (BSS) –With a view to stopping sale of adulterated food items and goods as well as freeing the consumers from clutches of unscrupulous traders, the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) yesterday fined 148 companies Taka 588,000.

During the drives, they monitored 75 markets across the country and realized fine of Tk 5.38 lakh from 135 companies for making food products at unhealthy places, not showing the price list, selling goods without any MRP seal and expired stuffs, including medicine, and cheating in weighing, said a press release.

The drives were conducted in Dhaka city, Shariatpur, Mymensingh, Sherpur, Narshingdi, Gazipur, Munshiganj, Netrakona, Manikganj, Cumilla, Noakhali, Feni, Lakshmipur, Sylhet, Sunamganj, Habiganj, Khulna, Jashore, Kushtia, Magura, Rajshahi, Natore, Sirajganj, Pabna and Chapainawabganj.

Besides, leaflets and pamphlets are distributed among locals to raise awareness.

Representatives from district administration, district police, Armed Police Battalion and respective civil surgeons were present during these drives.
