Bir Shrestha Nur Mohammad’s death anniversary observed

NARAIL, Sept 5, 2017, (BSS) – The 46th death anniversary of Bir Shrestha Nur Mohammad Sheikh was observed today at Nur Mohammad Nagar in Chandibarpur union of Sadar upazila here in a befitting manner.

The Bir Shrestha Nur Mohammad Sheikh trust and Narail district administration took various programmes to mark the day.

The programmes began through placing wreaths at the portrait of Bir Shrestha Nur Mohammad Sheikh. Qurankhani, Doa Mahfil, eassy writing competition, art competition and discussion meeting on life of Nur Mohammad and prize distribution ceremony were also held at Nur Mohammad Sheikh Memorial Museum and Library Auditorium in the district.

Nur Mohammad Nagar was early known as Mahiskhola, where he was born.

Mohammad Emdadul Haq Chaudhury, Deputy Commissioner of Narail, who is also president of the Bir Shrestha Nur Mohammad Sheikh trust, presided over the discussion.

Police Super Sarder Rakibul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Kamrul Arif, Narail Sadar UNO Salma Selim, District Muktijoddha Commandar Golam Kabir and Chandibarpur Union Parishad Chairman Azizur Rahman Bhuyan spoke on the occasion.

Bir Shrestha Nur Mohammad Sheikh’s son Mostofa Kamal was also present.

Nur Mohammad Sheikh was born on February 26, 1936 at Mahiskhola village (now Nur Mohammad Nagar) in Narail Sadar upazila. He joined then East Pakistan Rifles (EPR), which is now Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), on February 26, 1959.He later took part in the liberation war in 1971. He braced martyrdom on September 5 in 1971 at Goalhati in Jessore in a fight against the Pakistan army.

BGB Jessore region and Sharsha upazila administration also took different programmes marking the day.
