Ansar Al Islam’ member arrested in Dhaka


DHAKA, Sep 17, 2020 (BSS) – Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a member of the banned militant group ‘Ansar Al Islam’ from the capital’s Shyamoli area.

The arrestee has been identified as Abu Sayem alias Sifat, 26.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB-2 arrested him from the west side of Shyamoli Link Road BGB Bazar of Mohammadpur Police Station on Wednesday night.

RAB-2 (Media) ASP Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed the news to BSS on Thursday noon.

On September 10, RAB arrested four members of Ansar al-Islam in a raid in the southern part of the capital’s Darussalam police station. According to their infomation, Abu Sayem alias Sifat was arrested last night, RAB-2 (Media) ASP Mohammad Abdullah said.

He also said that two laptops, three mobile phones, some extremist booklets and leaflets were recovered from his possession.

A case will be filed against him under the Anti-terrorism Act.
