32 more positive tests for coronavirus in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Sept 17, 2020 (BSS) – Thirty-two more people were tested
positive today for coronavirus (COVID-19) at the COVID-19 Laboratory in
Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur division.

Health officials said the 32 new infected cases were reported today
after diagnosing 188 samples collected from six northern districts in Rangpur
division at the laboratory at the infection rate of 17.02 percent.

“The new 32 patients include 14 of Rangpur, two of Gaibandha, six of
Lalmonirhat, eight of Kurigram and one each of Dinajpur and Nilphamari,”
Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and
Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said.

Besides, testing of collected samples of suspected coronavirus infected
patients are being conducted amid disruption of power at the COVID-19
Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur town.

“We are expecting to complete the testing process of collected samples
of Dinajpur, Nilphamari, Panchagarh and Thakurgaon districts at the
laboratory by 11 pm tonight” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr Syed Nazir
Hossain told BSS at 8 pm.

Testing of samples resumed at the COVID-19 Laboratory in MARMC at
Dinajpur on Wednesday after fifteen days as the testing process remained
suspended there for the last one fortnight due to technical problems.

Talking to BSS tonight, Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director
(Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the total number of COVID-
19 patients stridently rose to 11,366 as 32 new cases were reported from
across the division today.

“The district-wise breakup of the 11,366 patients stands at 2,704 in
Rangpur, 570 in Panchagarh, 994 in Nilphamari, 824 in Lalmonirhat, 875 in
Kurigram, 1,032 in Thakurgaon, 3,248 in Dinajpur and 1,119 Gaibandha
districts,” he added.
