Croatia beat Denmark on tiebreaker to reach quarterfinals

DHAKA, July 02, 2018 (BSS)-  Sadly Denmark crashed out of the FIFA World Cup as Croatia moved in the quarterfinals after the match ended at 1-1 goals after extra time and in the tie-breaker, Croatia won the match by 3-2 goals held on the early hour of Monday at  Nizhny Novgorod in Russia.

In the day’s match, surprisingly it was Denmark who shot into lead as their player Zanka from a goal mouth melee scored the first goal of the match in the very first minute of the proceedings (1-0).

Almost from a similar no goal situation, Croatia equalized three minutes later when an comical error committed by Danish Christensen saw the ball ricochets from his head falls in perfectly into Manzukic’s path,  who no mistake to tap in from the hand- shaking distance from the goal line(1-1).

Almost after the remaining 84th minutes of the proceeding saw,  both the teams failed to break the stalemate with both teams had equally good opportunities but both rival goalkeepers stood firm.

The first 15 minutes of extra time saw nothing happened and in the second period of the play in the 114 minutes of the play  Modric sent a brilliant through ball to Rebic who beat the onrushing Denmark goalie Schmeichel only to find defender Jorgensen comes sliding in from behind to foul him for a penalty.

Croatian skipper Luka Modric step in and took the penalty shot and he shoots straight to goalkeeper Schmeichel who dives to his right to make a brilliant save.

In the penalty shootout it was Croatian goalkeeper Subasic who shocked the rival supporters with three incredible saves while his rival goalkeeper Schmeichel too made two brilliant saves but could stop Croatian going through into quarterfinals.

Croatia will meet host Russia in the quarterfinals on July 7 as they  dumped Spain earlier in the evening in  another penalty shootout.
