Tough stance against militancy remains unchanged: Quader

DHAKA, July 1, 2018 (BSS) – Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said the government’s tough stance against terrorism and militancy would remain unchanged.

“The law enforcement agencies remain vigil against militant and terror attacks . . .Tough stance of Bangladesh government against militancy remains unchanged,” he told journalists after paying a visit to the old site of Holey Artisan Bakery at Gulshan diplomatic zone that suffered the first ever worst terror attack in Bangladesh’s history two years ago.

Referring to the militant network in Bangladesh, the minister said, “The terrorism and militancy is a global phenomenon. Terror attacks hit many countries. But they (terrorists) have become weakened due to our security personnel’s vigilance.”

He categorically pointed out that due to the regular activities of law enforcement agencies, the militant network was destroyed, but the threat is yet to be fully rooted out. “We are safe, but we will remain alert,” he added.

Quader also quoted the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner (DMP) as saying that the investigation into the case of Holey Artisan Bakery attack is in the final stage and the charge sheet in the case would be submitted within a week.

Awami League Organizing Secretary Khaled Mahmud Chowdhury, MP, and DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia and senior police officials accompanied the minister at the Hole Artisan site.
