Journalist Kazi Siraj dies

Dhaka, Sept 1, 2017 (BSS) – Journalist and columnist Kazi Siraj died of cardiac failure at the age of 70 yesterday night.

Family members said they took him to a hospital after the journalist had a fall in the bathroom at his Banasree’s residence in the capital. But the doctors declared him dead at 10pm on his arrival at the hospital.

He is survived by his wife, a son, two daughters, host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.

The body will be taken to his native home located at Chouddagram of Comilla for burial after namaz-e-janaza at the National Press Club.

Kazi Siraj, a cousin of late Jatiya Party leader and former prime minister Kazi Zafar Ahmed, served Bangla daily Dainik Dinkal as editor.

He also wrote articles on politics in national dailies.

Leaders of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) today expressed deep shock at the death of the senior journalist.

In a joint condolence message, BFUJ President Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul and Secretary General Omar Faruque and DUJ President Shaban Mahmud and General Secretary Sohel Haidar Chowdhury recalled the contribution of Siraj to the field of journalism.

They also prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed
sympathy to the bereaved family.
