1,174 spots fixed in Dhaka for slaughtering sacrificial animals

DHAKA, Aug 31, 2017 (BSS) – Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) have fixed 1,174 spots for slaughtering the sacrificial animals on the day of Eid-ul-Azha aiming to speed up the waste management after the slaughtering.

“There will be 625 designated spots in Dhaka South and 549 in Dhaka North city corporation areas for slaughtering the sacrificial animals,” DSCC Mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon told BSS today.

He said a total of 1,217 Imams and butchers will be available in the designated spots to help with the slaughters. Of them, 625 will be present at the DSCC area and 592 will be in DNCC area, he added.

Khokon also said about 4.75 lakh animals would be sacrificed in the areas under the two city corporations on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha this year, producing 28,000 tons of extra rubbish in three days of Eid in the city.

Of them 18,000 tons of rubbish will be produced in DSCC area while 10,000 tons in DNCC area, he added.

The DSCC mayor said about 17,000 cleaning workers of the both city corporations will work in the management of wastes of sacrificial animals, including 15 cattle markets in the DSCC and 8 in the DNCC areas.

Leave of 17,000 waste management workers and all officials and staffs of the two city corporations was cancelled to speed up the management of waste, blood and leftovers disposal within short period after the slaughters, the mayor added.

A total of 2.5 lakh free sacks and 4.55 lakh polythene bags would be distributed among the DSCC and DNCC dwellers for taking the wastes, blood and leftovers disposal of the sacrificial animals after slaughters, Syeed Khokon said, urging the city dwellers to keep the wastes in the bags to make the city a clean.

He prohibited the people to slaughter their sacrificial animals in front of their houses or on the roads asking them to take their sacrificial animals to the designated spots and said it makes the wastes management easier.

The mayor said the waste management activities of the two city corporations will be conducted with coordination as DNCC Mayor Annisul Huq is staying abroad due to illness.

The wastes of the sacrificial animals will be removed within 24 hours from 2 pm on the Eid day, Khokon said, adding that an announcement has already been given in this regard.

The DSCC mayor said a hotline with number 09611000999 has been launched for helping the waste management process.

He urged the citizens to give suggestions or lodge complaints to the city corporations regarding waste management.
