21 people found involved in Holey Artisan attack: CCTC

DHAKA, June 30, 2018 (BSS) – Investigators have found the involvement of
total 21 people, including the operatives of the neo-Jama’atul Mujahideen
Bangladesh (JMB), in the Gulshan cafe‚ attack that saw 22, mostly foreigners,
killed two years ago here.

“Investigation into the attack is almost done . . . Total 21 people were
found directly and indirectly involved in the attack and the charge sheet
will be submitted very soon,” Md Monirul Islam, Chief of Counter Terrorism
and Transnational Crime (CCTC), briefed newsmen today.

He said six people were arrested in connection with the case. They gave
their confessional statement while two others are on the run.

Earlier on June 28, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner
Asaduzzaman Mia said the charge sheet in the case will be submitted by next
week as the investigation into the militant attack case is at the final
stage.

Armed militants stormed the Holey Artisan Bakery, an upstate cafe‚
located in capital’s diplomatic zone Gulshan, and took several people hostage
back on July 1, 2016.

The standoff ended in a bloody operation 22 hours after, resulting in
death of 20 hostages and two police officers – – Assistant commissioner (AC)
Rabiul Islam and Banani police station officer-in-charge Salauddin.

Meanwhile, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gulshan police station M Abu Bakar
Siddique said the cafe will remain open for four hours from 10 am to 2pm
tomorrow.

“Victims’ family members, embassy officials, police, people of different
professions, socio-cultural organizations and media people will be able to
visit the venue where the brutal incident took place two years back,” he
said.
