Prof Arefin Siddique mourns death of CR Dutta

DHAKA, Aug 25, 2020 (BSS)– Dhaka University (DU) former Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique today expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of one of the sector commanders of the Liberation War Major General (Rtd) Chitta Ranjan Dutta popularly known as CR Dutta, Bir Uttam.

In a condolence message, he said the nation would always remember his outstanding contribution to the Liberation War with due respect.

After the independence, CR Dutta played an important role in upholding the spirit of Liberation War, he added.

Recalling Dutta’s speeches at different programmes on DU campus, the former VC of the university said the Liberation War hero meticulously portrayed different aspects of the 1971 Liberation War as well as the tough period the nation witnessed after the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman through his lectures, before the university’s teachers and students.

Prof Arefin, also the chairman of board of directors of national news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), said CR Dutta projected the dark chapter of the country’s history to the new generation after Bangabandhu’s assassination.

His death is an irreparable loss to the nation, he added.

Prof Arefin prayed for the salvation of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.

The veteran freedom fighter breathed his last in a Florida hospital in the USA at the age of 93 this morning.
