AL webinar on August 21 grenade attack tomorrow
DHAKA, Aug 23, 2020 (BSS) – A webinar titled ‘Grenade attack on August 21 and emergence of militancy with the state patronization’ will be held tomorrow.
Bangladesh Awami League will arrange the virtual webinar, which will live broadcast on Facebook and Youtube channels of the Awami League, at 8:30pm.
On August 21, 2004, an unprecedented killing spree was carried out on the peaceful political rally at the capital during the then BNP-Jamaat alliance government.
Awami League (AL) chief Sheikh Hasina was attacked while she participated in an anti-terrorism protest rally in front of AL central office on Bangabandhu Avenue on that day. The then opposition leader and Awami League Chief Sheikh Hasina narrowly escaped, but a total of 23 leaders and activists of the AL, including Ivy Rahman, were brutally killed during the attack.
AL General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, AL’s Advisory Council member and central 14-party coordinator and spokesperson Amir Hossen Amu, AL’s Joint General Secretary and Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud, Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Organizing Secretary SM Kamal Hossen, Central committee member Mofazzal Hossen Chowdhury Maya, former Chattra League General Secretary Nazrul Islam Babu MP, the Aug 21 grenade attack case witness Major (retd) Engineer Shamsuddin Ahmad Chowdhury and PM’s deputy press secretary Ashraful Alam Khokon will attend the programme as the discussants.
Noted researcher and political analyst Subash Singha Roy will moderate the function.
The webinar also will be screened on the Bijoy television, Samoy tv, bdnews24, banglanews 24, barta24 and facebook page of Samakal, Jugantor, Ittefaq, Sarabangla, Bhorer Kagaj, Dhaka Times24, Jagonews24 and Bangladesh Journal.
