Expats don’t need to worry about visa expiry: Momen

SYLHET, Aug 19, 2020 (BSS) – Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen today said that expatriates Bangladeshis residing in different countries, especially in the Middle East, “need not worry” if their visas have expired amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“You (expatriates) don’t need to worry…your visa will be renewed automatically free of charge,” the minister made the remarks after unveiling the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the premises of deputy commissioner’s office here.

Momen said the government has taken all sorts of initiatives to resolve the problems of those expatriate workers, who failed to enter the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with valid visas as the oil-rich nation has recently imposed new immigration regulations for foreign workers due to COVID-19 pandemic.

He also talked about the probable cooperation between Bangladesh and India in getting access to the potential COVID-19 vaccine.

Terming Bangladesh-India bond as historic and rock-solid, Momen said the two countries will jointly celebrate the 50 years anniversary of Bangladesh’s independence next year.

He also said the government is fully engaged with other countries to bring back Bangabandhu’s fugitive killers home for establishing justice and rule of law in the country.
