All set to observe National Mourning Day in Khulna tomorrow

KHULNA, Aug 14, 2020 (BSS) – Different government, semi-government, autonomous bodies, socio-cultural and voluntary organisations and educational institutions have completed preparations to observe the National Mourning Day and 45th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the city and district on August 15 maintaining social distance during the coronavirus pandemic.

The programmes include hoisting the National flag at half-mast in all government, semi-government, autonomous and private buildings, placing floral wreaths at the monument of Bangabandhu, discussion meetings, distribution of leaflets, posters and screening of film show on life and works of Bangabandhu and special milad mahfils and prayers at all religious institutions.

According to a PID handout issued by Deputy Director of Khulna M Javed Iqbal today, at least three people in each government, semi-government or organisations will be attended while placing wreaths at the monument of Bangabandhu at Khulna Betar premises. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, it has been decided to cancel the mourning while virtual discussion, doa mahfil will be held this year through online.

Posters will be set up at all educational institutions and different establishments and life sketches of Bangabandhu and mourning related publicity will be held digitally throughout the mourning month, the PID handout added.

Besides, competitions on painting, essay writing, Hamd and Naat and recitation of poems, discussions on life and works of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and national history will be arranged in the DC’s conference room and other places.

Prize distribution ceremony of essay, art, Hamd, Naat and poem recitation competition and cheques distribution by the Directorate of Youth Development among the freedom fighters will be held at the same places maintaining all health guidelines.

Special munajat will be offered after Zuhr prayers at all mosques while prayers will be held at temples, churches and pagodas for salvation of the departed souls of Bangabandhu and his family members.

Khulna District Information Office, Islamic Foundation, Khulna Betar, Khulna University (KU), Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), Khulna Press Club and other organisations will observe the same programmes separately marking the day maintaining all kinds of health directives.

Local unit of Bangladesh Awami League and its front-organisations and different other political parties have taken various programmes marking the National Mourning Day.

The city and district units Awami League and its front organisations have also taken various programmes to mark the day here and upazila headquarters in a befitting manner.

The programmes, include hoisting of the National flag, party flags and black flags at half-mast at all the party offices in the city and district, wearing of black badges, placing wreaths at the monument of Bangabandhu, distribution of food among the distressed people, milad mahfil and discussion on life and works of Bangabandhu.

The upazila administrations will also observe the day through similar programmes in the district while Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) and Khulna District Police administrations have taken adequate measures to maintain law and order on the day.
