PM joins post-budget dinner

DHAKA, June 28, 2018 (BSS) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina this evening joined a post-budget dinner hosted by Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre here.

On her arrival at the venue at 8.10 pm, the prime minister was received by Abdul Muhith.

Later, Sheikh Hasina accompanied by the finance minister went round different tables set for the guests and exchanged pleasantries with them.

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Begum Raushan Ershad, Finance Minister AMA Muhith, National Professors Dr Anisuzzman and Dr Rafiqul Islam, Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury, LGRD Minister Engineer Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain, Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, Social Welfare Minister Rashed Khan Menon and Religious Affairs Minister Principal Motiur Rahman were present, among others, on the dais along with the prime minister.

Besides, other ministers, PM’s advisers, state ministers, chief whip, whips, parliament members, chiefs of the three services, attorney general, judges of the Supreme Court, the inspector general of police (IGP), gallantry award-recipient freedom fighters, educationists, editors, senior journalists, business leaders and leaders of different professional bodies and high civil and military officials attended the dinner.

The Jatiya Sangsad (JS) today passed a Taka 4,64,573 crore national budget for fiscal 2018-19 setting the GDP growth target at 7.8 percent in a bid to further alleviate poverty, reduce inequalities and bring basic and qualitative changes in the living standards of the people.

Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith moved the Appropriations Bill, 2018 seeking a budgetary allocation of Taka 571833,82,92,000 which was passed by voice vote.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Finance Bill 2018 was passed in Parliament with some changes in VAT and tariff rates as proposed by the Finance Minister to the original one that was placed before the House at the time of the presentation of the budget for FY18-19 on June 7 last.

The changes were made aiming to boost the ICT sector and promote local industries.

With the passage of both the Appropriation Bill-2018 and the Money Bill-2018, Taka 4,64,573 crore national budget for fiscal 2018-19 got the approval of Parliament today, the last working day of the current financial year.
