President mourns legendary singer Jabbar’s death

DHAKA, Aug 30, 2017 (BSS)-President M Abdul Hamid today expressed profound shock at the death of legendary singer and freedom fighter Abdul Jabbar.

In a condolence message, the President said, “In his death the country has lost a legendary singer who inspired freedom fighters through his songs from Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra during the 1971 Liberation War.”

He added, “Jabbar’s death is an irreparable to loss the country’s cultural arena . . . His contribution to music will be remembered with due respect forever.”

Abdul Hamid prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

Jabbar decorated with many national and international awards, including Bangabandhu Padak (1973), Ekushey Padak (1980) and Swadhinata Padak (1996), breathed his last at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University and Hospital (BSMMUH) here this morning at the age of 79.
