Farmers happy with fair jute price in Panchagarh

PANCHAGARH, Aug 12,2020 (BSS)- Farmers in the district are happy over bumper jute production and getting fair prices by selling the cash crop this season.

At present, most of the growers along with their family members are very much engaged in harvesting, decomposing, segregating and selling activities of jute.

Depen Chandra, a jute farmer of Sabouspara village under Debiganj upazila of the district, said he has cultivated jute on two bighas of land and got 16 mounds of jute.

After deducting all its expenditure, Depen has net profit Taka 18,000 by selling per maund jute at Taka 2000 to Taka 2200. Last year, he didn’t get this price, he added.

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said, about 9,450 hectares of land have been brought under jute cultivation in the district with the production target of 1,02,000 bales of jute.

Deputy Director of the DAE, Panchagarh Abu Hanif told BSS, Jute cultivation is lucrative and less expensive. This year, the climate was favourable for the jute cultivation.

The DAE department has supplied high quality jute seeds and fertilizers among the farmers at free of cost. The department has also given training to the farmers on modern methods for boosting jute production.
