PM mourns Abdul Jabbar’s death

DHAKA, Aug 30, 2017 (BSS) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today expressed deep shock at the death of legendary singer and freedom fighter Abdul Jabbar.

In a condolence message, the prime minister recalled Abdul Jabbar’s contributions to the great Liberation War, saying that he inspired the freedom fighters through his songs from Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra.

“The country has lost an eminent singer and valiant freedom fighter in his death,” she said.

Sheikh Hasina prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family.

Jabbar breathed his last at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital here this morning at the age of 79.

He was awarded Bangabandhu Padak (1973), Ekushey Padak (1980), Swadhinata Padak (1996) and different national and international awards.
