CHATTOGRAM, Aug 11, 2020 (BSS) – Members of the Hindu community celebrated the Janmashtami, one of their major religious festivals marking the holy birth anniversary of the Lord Sri Krishna, in the port city as elsewhere in the district with due religious fervour.
The three-day Janmashtami festival of Lord Krishna started without the grand procession titled “Mohashovajatra” in view of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Sree Sree Janmashtami Udjapan Parishad Bangladesh (SSJUPB) initiated the programme through the food distribution in the cities, districts and upazilas among the extremely poor, lower middle class helpless families and orphanages, maintaining social distance.
Officials of SSJUPB said arrangements have been made to sterilize devotees and visitors at the entrance of the temple.
Bimal Kanti Dey, central general secretary of SSJUPB, told BSS that the food items are being distributed among the poor across the country as part of the Janmashtami festival maintaining social distance.
“All the arrangements are limited this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. We did not bring out processions. The worship of the most loving Lord Krishna has been arranged only in the temples,” he added.
The three-day long programmes also includes illumination of temples, arranging discussion meetings and distribution of sweets, holding Rishi and Boisnab conference, recitation from the holy books (Pabitra Namkirtan), exhibition, scholarship distribution among meritorious students and distribution of Prashad, fasting, offering puja, special prayers and recitation from the holy Geeta and feeding to the destitute.
CMP and district police took adequate security measures marking the festival.
