65 pc babies breastfed in Bangladesh: Maleque

DHAKA, Aug 9, 2020 (BSS) – Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque today said 65 percent babies are breastfed in Bangladesh while the global figure of breastfeeding is 40 percent.

“Proportion of breastfeeding has increased by 25 percent in the country compared to global rate as the government has implemented massive promotional campaign of breast milk,” he told a function at his ministry marking the World Breastfeeding Week-2020 here, an official release said.

Secretary of Health Education Division Md Ali Nur and heads of different relevant organizations of the ministry, among others, were present at the function with Secretary of Health Service Division Md Abdul Mannan in the chair.

Maleque said the government is working tirelessly to motivate family members, including mothers for continuing breastfeeding to their babies amid coronavirus pandemic.

Highlighting huge health benefits of breastfeeding for both mothers and babies, other speakers urged people to breastfeed their infants for their healthy growth.
