KUSHTIA, Aug 9, 2020 (BSS) – Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif today said the present government has taken tough action to remove irregularities and corruption from the health sector.

“The mismanagement in health sector is not today’s problem, its a long time problem..the present government has taken strict measure to make the health sector free from irregularities and corruption”, Hanif said while responding to BNP leader comment on health sector at the inauguration of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s mural in front of Kushtia Govt College here this morning.

On BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi’s comment on health sector, the ruling party leader said the BNP is any way supporting the corruption in health sector as they are opposing the government’s steps to reshuffle the health sector.

Criticising the health ministry’s move to ‘stop’ drives at hospitals by law enforcement, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Thursday said it has exposed that the government wants to protect those involved in corruption in the health sector.

“The Health Services Division issued a circular (to refrain law enforcers from raiding hospitals) which has proved that the government wants to protect corruption as most of those involved in corruption and fraudulent acts in the health sector, and giving forged certificates, belongs to the ruling party. This circular has been issued to protect them,” said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

Speaking at a virtual press conference from Kurigram, Rizvi feared that the health sector will face even more dire consequences in the coming days and there will be no service for people.

On Wednesday, Health Services Division of the health ministry sent a letter to the home ministry asking it to keep law enforcement agencies away from raiding the government and private hospitals.

Replying to another query, the AL joint general secretary said the death of retired Bangladesh Army Major Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan in a reported police firing is very much unfortunate. “Investigation is going on over the incident and the government will bring all these who are involve with the incident under book”, he added.

AKM Sarwar Jahan Badsha MP of Kushtia-1, Selim Altab Jeorge MP of Kushtia-4, District Awami League President Sadar Uddin Khan, Its vice president Hazi Rabiul Islam, its General Secretary Ajgar Ali, Deputy Commissioner M Aslam Hossen, District Council Chairman Hazi Rabiul Islam, among others, attended the function.
