KHULNA, August 29, 2017 (BSS)-A court here today sentenced four people to death for killing a nine-year-old boy 11 years back.
The Additional Metropolitan and Sessions Judge Dilruba Sultana handed down the verdict against Sonia Akter, mother of the victim Hashmi, Md Nurunnabi, Md Rasul and Md Hafizur Rahman.
The court also acquitted Rabbi Sarder as the prosecution failed to prove his guilt.
According to the prosecution, Sonia, daughter of Zahangir Hossain Khan, resident of Maniktala area under Arongghata police station married off Hafizur Rahman in 2006.
Sonia gave birth to a boy child after one and half year of her marriage.
After her husband Hafizur went to abroad, she developed extramarital affair with Nurunnabi.
Being informed, Hafizur came to Bangladesh and gave divorce to Sonia keeping Hashmi, their son, in his custody.
On June 6, 2016, Sonia’s boyfriend Nurunnabi and his cohorts-Md Hafizur Rahman alias Hafiz and Rasul-kidnapped Hashmi from his father’s residence and later on killed him.
Later, police recovered the body from a water body on June 9.
Hafiz filed a case against three named and three to four unnamed people with Arongghata police station on the same day.
Investigative officer of the case Sub-Inspector Mizanur Rahman of Arongghata police station submitted a charge sheet to the court against three on June 30, 2016.
Later, the court ordered further investigation to CID as the complainant submitted petition against the charge sheet.
SI of CID Mithu Rani Das submitted charge sheet against seven after further investigation to the CMM Court.
Later, Additional Metropolitan and Sessions Judge court framed charges against five excluding two accused of previous charge sheet.
