DHAKA, June 27, 2018 (BSS) – The ruling Awami League (AL) General Secretary
Obaidul Quader in a formal reaction over victory in Gazipur City Corporation
(GCC) polls said today the people have voted for their election symbol ‘Boat’
being imbued with ongoing development works as well as the spirit of the
Liberation War.

Quader, also the Road Transport and Bridges Minister, was addressing a
post-poll briefing at the AL president Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi political
office in the capital.

Expressing his gratitude to the people of Gazipur city for casting their
votes for Nouka (Boat), he said, “The residents of Gazipur city want
development and so they voted for ‘Nouka’ in the GCC polls.”

The minister said the GCC polls were held in free, fair and neutral manner,
thanking all the stakeholders such as officials of Election Commission (EC)
and members of law enforcement agencies for presenting the nation such a
wonderful election. “The huge presence of the voters has proved the GCC
election poll was held in a free, fair and neutral manner,” he added.

He also hoped that the people will cast their franchise for Nouka in all
the upcoming elections particularly in the next general election to continue
the huge ongoing development works being carried out across the country by
the AL government, saying, “I hope the countrymen will also cast their votes
for ‘Nouka’ in the next general elections in a bid to continue the pace of
current development.”

About BNP’s allegations of vote rigging by the ruling party men, the AL
general secretary said, “They are rejecting the decision of those who have
voted for. They sound like a broken record player always spreading falsehood
and complaining to foreigners.”

“It is becoming BNP’s habit to spread falsehood over elections. When their
party nominated candidate win in a certain election, they say elections were
free and fair, but if their candidates face defeat, they campaign that
elections were not free and fair or accuse the ruling party men of vote
rigging,” he continued.

“Everyone said the election was free, fair and neutral except some stray
incidents. But, only the BNP is opposing the election as the party itself has
a negative attitude in case of disapproving everything,” he also said.

Among others, AL Presidium Member Dr Abdur Razzak,MP, Joint General Secretary
Jahangir Kabir Nanak, MP, Organising Secretary Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury,MP, Social
and Welfare Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, Information and Research Secretary Advocate
