176 business establishments fined Tk 2.22 lakh

DHAKA, July 16, 2020 (BSS) – The National Consumer Rights Protection Department (NCRPD) under the Ministry of Commerce conducted monitoring drives and realized Taka 12.22 lakh from176 business establishments on various charges.

The monitoring were conducted in different divisional cities and districts —

Dhaka, Chittagong, Faridpur, Netrokona, Madaripur, Gopalganj, Sherpur, Gazipur, Tangail, Shariatpur, Kishoreganj, Rajbari, Narshingdi, Brahmanbaria, Chandpur, Comilla, Noakhali, Feni, Rajshahi, Natore, Sirajganj, Pabna, Chittagong Khulna, Jessore, Kushtia, Bagerhat, Magura, Jhenidah, Meherpur, Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Sunamganj, Barisal, Bhola, Patuakhali, Jhalokati, Rangpur, Lalmonirhat, Dinajpur, Panchagarh, Kurigram and Gaibandha, said a press release issued here.

Monitoring drives were conducted in city’s Karwan Bazar, Shahbagh, Wari Bazar, Moghbazar and Hatirpul market area supervised by NCRPD Head Office Deputy Director Md Masum Arefin, Assistant Director Pranab Kumar Pramanik, Dhaka Divisional Office Assistant Director Md Magfur Rahman and Dhaka District Office Assistant Director Md Abdul Jabbar Mandal.

A total of Taka 31,000 was fined on Wednesday for not displaying the price list of the product during market supervision.

After conducting surveillance activities in 98 markets across the country, a total of Taka 9,68,100 were fined 162 companies for various offences like unhealthy food production, non-MRP on product packaging, sale of expired products or drugs, mixing of prohibited products in food products, sale of adulterated products and drugs.

A total of 6 organizations were fined a total taka of 2,23,000 for selling goods at a price higher than the prescribed price through written complaint settlement, deceiving the public by false advertisement and not selling or supplying the promised goods or services properly.
