Govt to continue relief operation until floodwater recedes: Maya

SHARIATPUR, Aug 28, 2017 (BSS) – Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya has said the government will continue relief operations until floodwater recedes.

“We have sent adequate relief materials to the flood affected districts of the country to mitigate sufferings of the affected people,” he told a relief distribution programme for flood-hit people at Shariatpur district, an official release said today.

Lt Col(retd) Shawkat Ali, MP, BM Mozammel Haque, MP, Advocate Navana Akhtar MP, Disaster Management and Relief Secretary Md Shah Kamal, among others, were present at the function.

Maya said the government will provide necessary agri-input including fertilizers and seeds to the flood affected farmers as part of livelihood supports so that they could be able to minimize their losses and damages.

Alongside providing relief operation and humanitarian supports, the government has taken initiatives to rebuild houses and other infrastructures damaged by floodwater, he added,

“We have cancelled leaves of officers and employees in flood affected areas under the Disaster Management and Relief Ministry for the sake of distributing relief goods properly,” the minister added.
