KHULNA, July 15, 2020 (BSS) – Leaders of Khulna city and District Units Awami League (AL), Khulna City Corporation (KCC), Khulna Development Authority (KDA), Khulna Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Entrepreneurs, Economists, Educationalists and other leaders of different political parties and trade bodies in separate statements hailed the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on her approval to establish “Sheikh Hasina Medical University” here.
Leaders of Khulna city and district AL greeted and congratulated the Prime Minister and the Cabinet Division members including Secretaries and officials of all local-level administrations for the policy approval on the medical university in Khulna.
The leaders said a long cherished dream has been fulfilled for Khulna people by the Premier with the approval of the “Sheikh Hasina Medical University”.
Highlighting the contribution of the local administration, they said if the administration of a government works in tandem with the government, then the development of that country can be done easily.
The AL leaders who are issued the statement are State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Mannujan Sufian, President of Khulna City AL and City mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque, Lawmaker of Khulna-2 constituency Sheikh Salah Uddin Jewel, President of Khulna District AL and Chairman of Khulna Zila Parishad Sheikh Harun-ur-Rashid, Whip of Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad Panchanan Biswas, MP, Former Minister Narayan Chandra Chanda, MP, Akhtaruzzaman Babu, MP, Abdus Salam Murshidi, MP, General Secretary of Khulna City AL MDA Babul Rana and General Secretary of Khulna District AL Advocate Sujit Kumar Adhikari.
Similar statement was made by Lawmakers of Bagerhat-1 and 2 constituencies Sheikh Helal Uddin, Sheikh Sarhan Naser Tanmoy, Awami League Central Organising Secretary SM Kamal Hassan and Bangladesh Cricket Board Director Sheikh Sohel.
Vice-Chancellors of Khulna University (KU) Professor Dr Md Fayequzzaman and Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) Prof Dr Sazzat Hossain and leaders of Khulna Unnayan Sangram Samonnya Committee and different socio-cultural odies and political parties also hailed the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the approval to establish “Sheikh Hasina Medical University”.
Earlier, On July 13, the cabinet, in principle, gave a nod to a draft law for building a medical university in Khulna division to be named after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as a part of the government’s measures to expand and develop the scope for higher medical education, research, and healthcare services in the country.
The main purpose of establishing a medical university in Khulna is to groom and build highly-educated experts and researchers alongside maintaining and improving the standard of education and research in medical colleges at graduate and postgraduate levels.
Scopes for getting improved healthcare services would be expanded by setting up the proposed medical university and that all the public and private medical colleges, dental colleges, nursing colleges and institutes and other medical institutes in Khulna division will be affiliated to the university.
