BNP spreading falsehood over GCC polls: Nanak

DHAKA, June 26, 2018 (BSS) – Awami League (AL) Joint General Secretary
Jahangir Kabir Nanak today alleged that BNP is hatching conspiracy to bring
an undemocratic government to power, making the election system controversial
through merging the government with election process.

“BNP is spreading fabricated statements over the Gazipur City Corporation
(GCC) election to make the election system controversial and insult the
people of Gazipur as it is their old habit,” he said at a press conference
over GCC polls at AL President Sheikh Hasina’s political office at Dhanmondi
in the city.

Nanak pointed out that BNP nominee Abdul Mannan was elected in the last
GCC election saying Awami League was also in power when that election was
held. “If there was any interference of the government in that election, how
would BNP candidate become the Mayor of Gazipur,” the AL leader added.

But the Gazipur city dwellers have been deprived of development for the
last five years that will encourage them to elect the AL candidate in this
election, he continued.

Replying to BNP’s allegation regarding polling agents, Nanak said they
could not deploy polling agents at all polling stations due to their internal
conflict and candidate’s weakness.

But now they want to put their own responsibility on the shoulder of
others, he added.

AL Organising Secretaries Ahmed Hossain, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury and AKM
Enamul Haque Shamim, Office Secretary Dr. Abdus Sobhan Golap, Relief and
Social Welfare Secretary Shree Sujit Roy Nandi, Cultural Affairs Secretary
Asim Kumar Ukil and Deputy Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua were
present at the press conference, among others.
