Police unearths motive behind murder of girl in Netrakona

NETRAKONA July 9, 2020 (BSS) – Netrakona police after thorough investigation has unearthed the motive behind the killing of a young girl at the Garo hilly areas under Durgapur upazila of the district.

Police have also arrested the killer of the girl, superintendent of police (SP) Netrakona Akber Ali Munshi informed local journalists in a press briefing here today.

The young girl named Hafsana, 16, daughter of Abu Saleque of village Khalikapur under the Durgapur upazila went missing after going to Gaor hilly areas at village Kamarkhali under the same upazila on July 1.

Based on secret information, Durgapur Police recovered her body from a ditch of the hilly area on July 2 and sent it to Netrakona Sadar hospital morgue for postmortem.

A police inquiry team led by SP Akber Ali Munshi was given the charge for investigating the murder case.

The inquiry team picked up the victim’s brother-in-law Abul Kashem and took him to Durgapur police station for interrogation.

Later, Abul Kashem gave his confessional statement to the police and before judicial magistrate court admitting that he killed Hafsana after forcibly violating her.

In the confessional statement, Kashem said, he strangulated Hafsana to death by wrapping her neck with her scarf.
