KCC mayor distributes food aid, money among 1,642 jobless workers

KHULNA, July 7, 2020 (BSS) – Mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Talukder Abdul Khaleque distributed foodstuffs and cash money among 1,642 distressed and jobless workers here today to mitigate their sufferings rendered by the COVID-19 pandemic.

City mayor distributed foodstuffs including rice, pulses, salt, potatoes, soaps among 500 jobless workers at ward no 14 and 15 in the city’s no- 6 and 8 Ghat Jetty Handling workers union premises and ward no- 21 in Joragate Truck Terminal premises at the initiative by China Harbor Engineering Company by strictly following health safety guidelines.

General Secretary of Khulna City Awami League (AL) MDA Babul Rana, KCC Panel Mayor Md. Aminul Islam Munna, ward councillor’s, among others, were present during the distribution of food items.

While distributing the food items, the city mayor said that the common people of the country will must get food during coronavirus outbreak.

“Everyone should follow the government’s instructions to get rid of Corona,” he said, adding that “the government is continuing to distribute relief items among the helpless, destitute and extremely poor people”.

Later, the mayor disbursed 200 mounds of rice, Taka 1,14,200 and others relief materials among 1,142 needy and destitute people at the city’s ward no- 17 and 24 aimed at meeting their financial hardship amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation.

Each of the beneficiaries received a sac containing 7 kilograms of rice and Taka 100 for purchasing other essentials as part of the government’s instant humanitarian support programme.

Besides, the KCC mayor distributed foodstuffs among the footwear workers at Nagar Bhaban premises at the initiative of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society Khulna city unit.

Earlier, China Harbor Engineering Company handed over 2,000 packets of food items to City Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque.
