DHAKA, July 5, 2020 (BSS) – Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said the identities of those, who are being arrested due to their involvement in relief misappropriation and other wrong-doings, are offenders.

He said the government did not spare the people of its own party to this end, while Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already directed the authorities concerned to arrest the people involved in these irregularities and hoarding goods.

Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, was addressing a virtual press briefing from his official residence here.

Responding to an allegation of BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the AL general secretary said the identities of those involved in relief misappropriation and other offenses are offenders, and legal actions are being taken against them.

“Has any top BNP leader or any leader of its central committee gone to jail? Even then, the BNP is delivering poisonous statements against the government every day in obscene language and the government is showing tolerance,” he said.

Quader said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government is a development-oriented one, while it has been working to build ‘Sonar Bangla’ as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by improving the living standard of the country’s people.

Despite facing recurrent natural disasters, he said, now Bangladesh is a country of promising economy.
He said Sheikh Hasina is another name of strong confidence of the people as she led the country in different crisis.

About coronavirus infection, he said Bangladesh is now facing three challenges – containing coronavirus infection, protecting flood-hit people and avoiding public gatherings during Eid-ul-Azha.

The AL general secretary called upon all to follow the health guidelines and avoid gatherings during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha to keep them safe from the virus infection.
