SANGSAD BHABAN, June 25, 2018 (BSS) – Lawmakers participating in the
national budget discussion today said the proposed national budget for 2018-
19 fiscal has stressed on the employment generation to ensure welfare of the
people.
They said the budget would also help play a significant role by
maintaining the continuity of development and transform the country into a
middle income country by 2021 and a developed nation by 2041.
Taking part in the general discussion on the budget in the house, Social
Welfare Minister Rashed Khan Menon hoped that the proposed budget will
generate employment for the youths and at the same time it would help fulfil
the dream of becoming a prosperous country within stipulated time.
“Although the proposed budget has a deficit while the country is enough
enable to materialize the proposed budget as the growth rate of the country
now has propelled to 7.65 per cent ,” said the minister.
Terming the budget as pro-people one, Menon said the allocation for the
distressed people was Taka 49 crore during the BNP-Jamaat regime, now it is
incresed to Taka 2400 crore.
In 2002, BNP made jamaat secretary general Mujahid,as the Social Welfare
Minister, who distributed huge money to the voluntary organizations of the
Jamaat Islami Bangladesh, the minister added.
The minister urged the government to increase the age-bar of the youths for
public services. He also urged the government to provide unemployment
allowance, easy loan services to the unemployed youths as the country has
almost 1.24 crore unemployed youths.
After the war against militancy, the minister said the government is now
carrying out massive anti-drug clampdown, adding that only killing the
peddlers is not the ultimate solution of the problem, but elimination of the
god fathers behind the problem should also needs to be identified.
He hoped that the prime minister will now give directives against the
corruption, otherwise all the effort in favour of the development will be
vanished.
Praising the proposed budget, Jute and Textile Minister Imajuddin Pramanik
said the tenure of the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is the
golden era.
He urged the people to give Awami League mandate again for maintaining the
continuity of development.
The lawmakers during their discussion also welcomed the Prime Minister for
conducting countrywide drive against the drug.

On June 7, Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith placed a Taka 4,645.73
billion national budget for 2018-19 fiscal setting the GDP growth target at
7.8 percent and detailing a set of programmes to transform the country into a
role model of modern and welfare state by 2041.
Earlier, the lawmakers paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members who were
assassinated on August 15, 1975 and all martyred during the War of Liberation
in 1971.
