More skilled manpower needed to maximize dev efforts: Nasrul

DHAKA, July 4, 2020 BSS) – With a focus on creating more skilled manpower to cope with the global competitive scenario, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid today said imparting training to officers at different levels is a pre-requisite for human resource development.

“We need skilled human resource and well-trained officers with humanitarian quality for turning Bangladesh into a developed country by 2041. Prepare yourself as officers of a developed country by keeping your morality strong,” he made the remarks at the concluding ceremony of a basic training course through video conference from his residence.

Bangladesh Power Management Institute (BPMI) organized the 60-day “Basic Training Course” for 32 assistant engineers of Dhaka Electricity Supply Company (DESCO), who were appointed recently.

The state minister said Bangladesh has achieved an unprecedented success in the power sector, and the government has established BPMI for creating more skilled manpower.

“We want to build the BPMI as an international standard training institute. Our distribution, transmission and manufacturing companies have gained much more capacity. Engineers also need to increase their capabilities,” he said.

Emphasizing capacity building side by side customers’ satisfaction, Nasrul said, no consumer will face inconveniences while receiving services.

The training programme has been completed in 11 modules in a total of 60 working days. The training course was conducted by eminent academics of the country, high officials, experienced officers of various companies and corporate trainers.

Rector of BPMI Md Mahbub-ul-Alam presided over the virtual event.

Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office Dr Ahmed Kaikaus and Power Division Secretary Dr Sultan Uddin spoke.
