Govt moves to strengthen e-GP Data Center

DHAKA, June 25, 2018 (BSS)-The government has taken initiatives to strengthen electronic government procurement (e-GP) Data Center to conduct its operation more efficiently.

An agreement in this regard was signed between Central Procurement Technical Unit (CPTU) of Planning Ministry and Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) of ICT Division on Sunday at the conference room of CPTU, said a media release.

ICT Secretary Subir Kishore Chowdhury, Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED) Secretary Md. Mofizul Islam and Additional Secretary AKM Badrul Majid, BCC Executive Director Parthapratim Deb, CPTU DG Md. Faruq Hossain, Lead Procurement Specialist of World Bank Dr. Zafrul Islam and Director of National Data Center Tarique M Barkatullah were, among others, present at the programme.

According to a source in the ICT Division, the CPTU which set up high capacity e-GP Data Center at the National Data Center of BCC sometimes in the middle of last year has enhanced its operational efficiency of e-GP system and BCC has been providing infrastructural assistance to CPTU to set up the e-GP data Center.

The agreement has specified the responsibility of both sides aimed at ensuring some vital issues including security of the e-GP Data Center, connectivity, web service, problem solutions.

The CPTU has been implementing e-GP with the assistance of World Bank to use ICT in the government procurement process and set up an e-GP Data Center as backup in it its office.

Since introduction of e-procurement system in 2011 a total of 1,224 out of 1,319 government organizations have been enlisted in the e-GP until Sunday and 46,000 bidders have been registered in the system and of them 190,000 tenders worth Taka 1,60,000 crore have been invited so far.
