48 militants killed in northern Afghan province

SHIBERGHAN, Afghanistan, June 30, 2020 (BSS/XINHUA) – Afghan forces have killed 48 insurgents including two Taliban commanders in the northern Jawzjan province since Monday, provincial government spokesman Abdul Marouf Azar said Tuesday.

According to the official, the clash flared up after the Taliban insurgents stormed security checkpoints in Denar village of Qarqin district on Monday afternoon and the government forces including army and police retaliated, forcing the insurgents to flee after leaving 35 bodied behind including two commanders, Mullah Usman and Mullah Majid.

A total of 25 more militants were injured in the fighting, according to the official.

The official also confirmed that two security personnel had been killed and three others wounded.

Similarly, 13 militants have been confirmed dead and 17 others wounded as fighting planes struck the Taliban hideouts in the neighboring Kham Ab district of the restive Jawzjan province on Monday night, Azar further said.

The Taliban outfit has yet to make comments.
