COVID-19 cases exceed 2,700 mark in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, June 30, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases exceeded the 2,700 mark as 58 more new patients were reported positive after testing their samples in Rangpur division on Monday.

“The total number of COVID-19 patients now stands at 2,714 in all eight districts of the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

“The district-wise break up of the patients stands at 916 in Rangpur, 139 in Panchagarh, 338 in Nilphamari, 110 in Lalmonirhat, 138 in Kurigram, 202 in Thakurgaon, 601 in Dinajpur and 270 Gaibandha districts in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said the common people should become more aware of the severity of COVID-19 virus as its limited scale community transmission continues at fewer places in the division.

Meanwhile, with the healing of 49 more COPVID-19 infected people on Friday, the total number of recovered patients rose to 1,579 now with the recovery rate of 58.17 percent in the division.

The 1,579 recovered COVID-19 patients include 534 of Rangpur, 109 of Panchagarh, 243 of Nilphamari, 52 of Lalmonirhat, 78 of Kurigram, 134 of Thakurgaon, 319 of Dinajpur and 110 of Gaibandha districts.

“During the last 24 hours, 267 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 271 others released from all eight districts in the division,” Dr. Khan said.

Since the beginning, a total of 48,392 people were put in quarantines, and of them, 43,084 released and 5,308 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines in Rangpur division.

“We have tested a total of 26,904 collected samples of Rangpur division were tested till Monday, and of them, the 2,714 found coronavirus positive with the percentage of 10.08 in the division,” he said.

With no more death reported from anywhere on Monday, the total number of fatalities remains steady at 49 for the last 72 hours in the division.

“The district-wise break up of the fatalities remains at 15 in Rangpur, 12 in Dinajpur, nine in Gaibandha, six in Nilphamari, three in Panchagarh, two in Thakurgaon and one each in Lalmonirhat and Kurigram districts of the division,” Dr. Khan said.

Among the total 2,714 COVID-19 patients, 114 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 1,579 recovered patients and 39 deaths while 972 remaining in isolation at homes in the division.

“We have so far received a total of 1,72,316 pieces of personal protective equipment (PPE) so far and distributed 99,946 pieces of the same among the health service providers with a stock of 72,370 pieces in the division,” Dr. Khan added.

Talking to BSS, Additional Division Commissioner (General) Md. Zakir Hossain said the authorities concerned are working in a coordinated way to prevent COVID-19 infection, provide health services to the infected patients and face the situation.

“Maximum efforts have been put on inspiring common people in maintaining physical distance, wearing masks and abiding by the health directives to prevent community transmission of COVID-19 in the division,” Hossain added.
